Soundpainting Workshop
“Advanced Soundpainting Session-Beginners Welcome.” We cover new concepts around this live-composing sign language, and share new ideas. Beginners can ‘swim’ and ask questions, and a short overview of gestures can also be done before diving in with the rest of the group. Hosted each month by two Soundpainter hosts, these sessions will cover a variety of live-composition topics and will concentrate on different disciplines such as: acting, dancing/movement, lighting design, visual art, music, electronic music.

The Deicont Philips Collective- Allison Philips-Trumpet, Mike Deicont-Bass, Louis Cohen-Guitar, Alex Kirkpatrick-Percussion, Connor Parks-Drums
Deicont | Philips collective is a project under the guidance of New York born, Amsterdam based trumpeter Allison Philips and bassist Mike Deicont. Currently numbering 5, these friends have come together to perform a repertoire spanning many genres. The group performs both original compositions as well as forward thinking arrangements from Americana to John Coltrane.
Christopher Hoffman is best known as a composer and cellist to an assortment of ensembles, composers, film-makers, songwriters, dancers, improvisers and noizers. He is also a producer, engineer and film composer. Christopher writes for his ensembles multifariam, the silver cord quintet, magic wells and company of selves. He currently performs in Henry Threadgill’s zooid (recipient of the 2016 pulitzer prize), dimples & double-up ensemble, Tony Malaby’s tubacello quartet and Jeremiah Cymerman’s pale horse

Melinda Faylor, pianist, plays 20th and 21st Century solo piano works
Melinda Faylor is a pianist working in a variety of genres, primarily in NYC. She has performed with new music chamber ensembles Lunatics at Large, Mimesis, Ensemble 212, TACTUS, Tenth Intervention and the Curiosity Cabinet. Melinda is also a frequent curator and producer of concerts and concert series. This solo performance at the Firehouse Space is in preparation for an album recording, and marks a return to some favorite 20th and 21st century solo piano works from her past, as well as some new pieces that have always been on her mind to play: John Corigliano’s Etude Fantasy, John Adams’ Phrygian Gates, Karen Tanaka’s Crystalline II, Tobias Picker’s the Blue Hula and Old and Lost Rivers, and Frederic Rzewski’s Down By the Riverside. There will be video projections created to accompany at one or more of the pieces.

This concert features the World Premiere of Fifteen-Minutes-of-Fame: Re-Imaginging Beethoven, Stephen Porter, piano-15 one-minute works by 15 composers Alberto Alassio, Aaron Alter, Bracha Bdil, Daniel Cocchetti, Paul Dickinson, Alessandro Giannotti, Peter Gilbert, S.R. Kisselbaugh, Kamil Kosecki, Mathieu Daniel Polak, Aurelio Scotto, Mateo Soto, David Nelson Tomasacci, Anne-Marie Turcotte, and Peter Walton,
The Composer’s Voice Concert Series is an opportunity for contemporary composers to express their aesthetic and personal voice. Founded in 2001 by Robert Voisey, Composer’s Voice has presented hundreds of concerts in New York City. The series has premiered thousands of works from living composers from around the world. Works are chosen from a wide range of contemporary composers of different styles, aesthetics, and genre. The works are performed by dedicated musicians devoted to new music.
