Soundpainting Workshop

post 11

This session will be led by Nolan Kennedy and the Letter of the Marquee Theatre Company!  We will work on interdisciplinary signs, round robin, and at 8pm we will ‘perform!’

“Advanced Soundpainting Session-Beginners Welcome.” We cover new concepts around this live-composing sign language, and share new ideas. Beginners can ‘swim’ and ask questions, and a short overview of gestures can also be done before diving in with the rest of the group. Hosted each month by two Soundpainter hosts, these sessions will cover a variety of live-composition topics and will concentrate on different disciplines such as: acting, dancing/movement, lighting design, visual art, music, electronic music.

This session we will focus on Rasas and Soundpaint palettes inspired by Richard Schechner’s “Rasa Boxes.”

“Devised in the 1980s and 90s by Richard Schechner, rasaboxes offers performers a concrete physical tool to access, express, and manage their feelings/emotions within the context of performance. Useful as performer training, rasaboxes also has many other applications in various fields including (but not limited to) therapy, business, and education. Basically, rasaboxes trains participants to physically express eight key emotions first identified in the Natyasastra, a Sanskrit text dealing with theatre, dance, and music.” –Rasaboxes.org

Soundpainting Workshop

Jan 18

Tomi Tsunoda’s ensemble the Brooklyn Soundpainting Company will be  hosting this event.

Brooklyn Soundpainting Company has been working since 2007 on incorporating the live composition language of Soundpainting into their contemporary theater practice. As BSC kicks off the new year, the team is developing ideas for a new longform theater project called And Then What, an exploration of survivalism and the collapse of modern civilization. On January 18th, as part of the Soundpainting 3rd Sundays series, BSC will be leading a workshop in theatrical Soundpainting from 68p, and offering a first sneak peek performance of first explorations from the And Then What project at 8p. This workshop is open attendance to anyone interested in the use of Soundpainting for actors and narrative development. (more…)

Join the Strike Anywhere Performance Ensemble as we fold members of the community into a Shel Silverstein soundpainting! Those who attend the workshop should memorize a favorite line or poem by Shel. The roving soundpainting will weave through the Firehouse space with soundpaintings popping up in different rooms. Amateur performers, professional musicians, dancers and actors, kids of all ages – COME PLAY WITH US! All are welcome! Simultaneous workshops will allow beginners to learn a basic cadre of Soundpainting signs, the refresher course will help participants dust off the signs and advanced soundpainters will develop several palettes.
