This program is divided equally between the works of American composers of the 20th century (specifically those who advocated for fellow composers of their time or for the composers of the younger generation) and premieres by young composers of the Manhattan School of Music. Composers include Charles Ives, Aaron Copland, George Crumb, Anthony Constantino, Jonathan Koch, James Sheppard, and Kyle Werner. The resulting of music exemplifies the spirit of exploring and sharing opportunity in a newly-found country and evolving culture; the songs are varied, yet each sound world shares a wide-eyed purity and distinctive harmonic grasp for the unknown.
