Soundpainting is a form of living composition where the composer-conductor uses gestures to make music and performance art in real time. You may attend this session as an absolute beginner (you do not even need to be a musician) that doesn’t know any of the gestures.

Join us for this first Soundpainting session, “Advanced-Beginners Welcome.” We cover new concepts around this live composing sign language, and share new ideas. beginners can ‘swim’ and ask questions, and a short overview of gestures can also be done before diving in with the rest of the group. Hosted each month by two Soundpainting-conductor hosts, these sessions will cover a variety of live composition topics and concentrating on different disciplines; acting, dancing/movement, lighting design, visual art, music, electronic music are all possible topics for discussion. Join us every last Sunday 2-5pm. Soundpainting hosts include Mark Lindberg, Evan Mazunik, Gil Selinger, Yeonathan Shachar, Dennis Shafer, Tomi Tsunoda, Sarah Weaver, and Leese Walker, each leaders of their own Soundpainting ensembles in New York.

Hosts on January 26th:

Sarah Weaver is a New York-based composer, conductor, and technologist working internationally as a specialist in telematic music for large contemporary ensembles and in localized works. She performed in the Walter Thompson Orchestra and was Walter Thompson’s associate Soundpainter from 1998 to 2002.

Guitarist/composer Yeonathan Shachar is the director of the Paintbrush Orchestra and the Cinesthesia Soundpainting Orchestra.
