Two emerging groups, RighteousGIRLS and Mobius Percussion, pair up for an evening of unforgettable new music by rising stars such as Andy Akiho, Wally Gunn, Amy Beth Kirsten, and many others. Ranging from improvisatory jazz to visceral percussion, each group possesses a unique aesthetic that is changing how audiences are experiencing new music.

As RighteousGIRLS, NY-based flutist Gina Izzo and pianist Erika Dohi continually expand their vocabulary through ongoing commissioning projects and collaborations, inviting some of today’s most prominent composers and artists to create genre-blurring new music. On this program, RighteousGIRLS feature a collection of rhythmically driven compositions integrating improvisation, electronics, and percussion. The use of odd time signatures, nonconventional form, and extended techniques illustrates not only these composers, but the RighteousGIRLS ability to meld the lustrous timbres of the flute and piano in the most percussive and unconventional ways.

Mobius Percussion seeks to fuse their interest in fresh sounds with their commitment to high-quality performance and the promotion of new works by emerging composers. Based in New York City, the ensemble made their debut at (Le) Poisson Rouge, performing alongside other notable artists including NEXUS, Meehan/Perkins Duo, So Percussion, and Mantra Percussion. Mobius has given concerts and masterclasses at numerous universities including the Curtis Institute of Music, York College of Pennsylvania, Rutgers University, and Rowan University as well as participating in educational outreach programs including the MAP program at Juilliard. With several unannounced, versatile projects already in the works, Mobius seeks to springboard evocative ideas with a theatrical inclination to the forefront of their music making.
