Two fabulous groups, the Weekly Reeders and the Whatevs, led by Lee Tomboulian, performing his compositions and arrangements of an eclectic mix of music from 4 continents. Jazz and world music informs his approach. Weekly Reeders features reed sounds from Lee’s accordion playing and Carlos Cuevas on melodica. Christos Rafalides, expert vibraphonist, Cliff Schmidt on acoustic bass, and Elizabeth Tomboulian complete the ensemble. Whatevs is a sextet with Lee on piano, Alex Gressel on bass, Brian Woodruff on drums, Matt Hong on alto, Stan Killian on tenor, and Roger Lent on Trumpet. The repertoire spans bebop, modern jazz, Ornette Coleman, candombe, and refracted standards.
