Friction Quartet will give two world premieres of newly commissioned works. Ian Dicke’s Unmanned, for string quartet and live electronics, exploits the contrast between the humane acoustic sounds of the string quartet and the range of effects available through advanced electronic music to force the listener to face the impersonal horror of contemporary warfare by remote control. Friction will give the NYC premieres of Stephen Feigenbaum’s Strange Dances and Erik DeLuca’s Lake for string quartet and video. Also on the program are two east coast premieres of Friction commissions: Daniel Felsenfeld’s You.Have.No.Idea, and Noah Luna’s The Highwayman for string quartet and tenor, Brian Thorsett.
