Colonic Youth & Andrew Drury’s Content Provider

New York’s contemporary music scene is singularly vast in scope, perhaps impossible to cover with a single series. With this residency at The Firehouse Space, Dan Blake brings together a range of collaborations that at least begins to represent the diversity of experiences and musical styles he has witnessed while living in New York.

1st set:

Andrew Drury’s “Content Provider Trio,” features two veteran saxophonists who each have developed a unique body of work in improvised music. Combined with the special compositional input of the group’s leader, this trio offers and exceptionally vast creative palette. Andrew Drury is a drummer/composer whose work integrates conventional drumming practices and techniques that employ breath, friction, and bowing. A former student of Ed Blackwell, Drury is also working on his second solo CD.

Andrew Drury’s Content Provider Trio is: Andrew Drury (Drums/Percussion), Ingrid Laubrock (Tenor Saxophone), and Briggan Krauss (Alto Saxophone)

2nd set:

Colonic Youth is a quartet that takes a brazen and unsparing look at the jazz quartet setting. The group features four experienced performers in the jazz idiom who all feel that something has been left unsaid, which is why they began this project, now in its second year. The quartet will soon unveil its debut record “Fountain of Youth” on the Infrequent Seams label.

Colonic Youth is: Dan Blake (Soprano Saxophone), Philip White (Mixer, Feedback), James Ilgenfritz (Bass), and Kevin Shea (Drums/Percussion)
