**As Seen In Time Out New York**

Rex Isenberg (Composer), Eric Umble (Clarinet), Hayne Kim (Violin), Vivian Chang (Cello), Jacob Sievers (Piano), Sophia Vastek (Piano), and Hyun Yi Kim (Soprano)

This program focuses on the works of composer Rex Isenberg including a world premiere. Isenberg’s Das Stunden-Buch (The Books of Hours) sets the poems of Rainer Maria Rilke to music for piano, clarinet, and soprano. Rainer’s poems express the poet’s intense and complex emotions towards God, from wonderment and awe, to fear and misunderstanding, and finally to complete acceptance and embracing of a higher power. The world premiere performance of Isenberg’s An Angel at Dachau for piano, clarinet, violin, and cello, tells the story of a Jewish prisoner at Dachau concentration camp and his encounter with the angel of death. Also on the program are selections from Isenberg’s Vignettes for solo piano and a performance of Carl Vine’s tour-de-force Piano Sonata No. 1.
