Through imaginative and accessible programming, these two NYC-based ensembles have similar missions to perform premieres of new works as well as underperformed and relevant repertoire. In April of 2015 they join together to present “Deconstruction,” a collection of music that uses textual and musical elements that have been “morphed.” In this concert, music and text is pulled apart, and re-designed to either make something new out of the pieces, or to be left as broken or distorted  Among the works being performed is “para” – winner of the 2015 Jerome New Music Award and written by Anne Goldberg for herself on piano, trumpeter Andy Kozar and soprano Corrine Byrne.  Goldberg says, ” ‘Para,’ a Greek and romantic language preposition, means to be alongside, of, by, or beyond.  These realms alongside one another create associations, which slowly and carefully morph and distort as the piece progress, creating cause-and-effect sequences that are gradually disrupted as the piece unfolds.” Other composers presented will include Alex Weiser, Tomek Regulski, and more.
