Rootless trio is Mike Stingone on drums, Mark Sposato on upright bass and Jeremy Hurewitz on guitar and sampler. Mike and Mark had played together on and off for years as a rhythm section in Stem Trio. Jeremy, back from a long stint overseas, had been playing experimental ambient/psych folk in Monastics and in solo projects. A desire to bring that feel into a jazz aesthetic brought him together with Mike and Mark at their studio along the Williamsburg waterfront in April, 2013. Together they have created a unique sound and approach, which combines a variety of styles into music far greater than the sum of its parts.
On the cusp of releasing their first full length album, Rootless Trio has been performing lately with legendary horn player, Daniel Carter. Daniel is one of NY’s most well-known musical collaborators and a tireless improviser, collaborating over the last four decades with musicians ranging from Sun Ra to Thurston Moore.
On October 24th Rootless Trio will play two sets with Daniel Carter, and perhaps some special guests.
