Flutist Roberta Michel performs works for flute and electronics that she has commissioned over the past two years. Michel will premiere Nissim Schaul’s Two Birds, as yet Unheard. Those two birds are the Marteau pêcheur and the Martin piqueur, which in English would be, roughly, Kinghammer and Jackfisher. The piece began with Nissim’s inability to keep the French words for jackhammer and kingfisher straight despite his expat status, and has become a flutistic exploration of cladistics.

Also on the program will be Quinn Colling homage to Roy Orbison, Like Dreamers Do, Angélica Negrón’s intimate Hush, and Eric Allen’s wonderfully absurd ringtones for a greater tomorrow, a duet for flute and virtuoso melodica.
