patrick brennan’s transparency kestra is a modularly organized ensemble of roughly 8 – 14 primarily wind and string performers that investigates multiple flows of musical information in a way that crisscrosses genre defined boundaries between so called formal composition, collective improvisation and conduction by means of an examination of the under-tested intersections of drum and melodic principles.

Transparencies coordinate superimposable melodies that each articulate a contrasting rhythmic stratum while meeting frequently as melodic unisons so as to prioritize variable timbre and texture, spiking contrarily to construct flickering, variably colored composite soundscapes modeled somewhat on the examples of African polyrhythm and melodic polyphony. Decentralized organization wraps through exacting interfaces whose parameters are compositionally redefined throughout performance via conduction.
