Rootless and Midnight Radio Show present an evening of music and entertainment hosted by Charlotte Lily Gaspard.

The first set will combine the soundscapes and spoken word of Rootless with the shadow puppets of Midnight Radio Show (MRS).  “The Camel & the Moon” is a journey into the desert, where a gnostic ritual unfolds and ecstatic epiphany arises out of the darkness.  “Defensive Indifference” is the story of a tram ride home through Prague late at night, when the end of revelry and dissipating beauty funnel downwards past melancholy and lead towards dark truths.

For the second set, William Stanton and Rootless (Jeremy Hurewitz) will premier the three song suite cycle of John Ashberry’s Pulitizer Prize winning poem, “Self portrait in a convex mirror”. William will provide a visual accompaniment performed on custom software instrument he built using MaxMSPJitter. The instrument enables William to spontaneously create intuitive and responsive visuals that work with and against Jeremy’s live musical performance.

Jeremy Hurewitz was a journalist for a decade based in Prague and Shanghai. Through Rootless, Jeremy explores themes of memory, travel, exoticism and epiphany. The music is constructed through open guitar tunings and a sampler, all looped through a custom pedal set-up. The samples in Rootless are a variety of guitar, keyboard and beat samples recorded by Jeremy and collaborators. Vocal samples feature text by Jeremy as well as authors like Lawrence Durrell, Robert Creeley, John Ashbery and Arthur Rimbaud.

Midnight Radio Show (MRS) was founded in 2013 by Charlotte Lily Gaspard (aka Miss C.). Inspired by the creation of new fairytales and the love of shadow puppets, MRS experiments with visual art, music, and the oral tradition of storytelling to create the theatrical experience of a bedtime story come to life. Exploring themes of courage, love, responsibility, and adventure, MRS fairytales are populated with magical creatures, magical locations and magical encounters. MRS seeks to create not just one world, but a whole universe filled with discovery and wonder.

William Stanton is a composer, producer and technology enthusiast who creates music for film, dance and common listening. His work has been heard in venues ranging from the Detroit Institute of Art and the Museum of Contemporary Arts Detroit to the Baryshnikov Arts Center and the 2013 Cannes International Film Festival. William recently completed an international tour as the front of house engineer and visual programmer for the Virgil Moorefield Pocket Orchestra. He is currently finishing production on two EPs with Jeanann Dara’s KO project while preparing compositions for his first full length solo record.
