Jorge Roeder Solo & Cabin Trio

New York’s contemporary music scene is singularly vast in scope, perhaps impossible to cover with a single series. With this residency at The Firehouse Space, Dan Blake brings together a range of collaborations that at least begins to represent the diversity of experiences and musical styles he has witnessed while living in New York.

For the fourth concert of the series, Jorge Roeder will play a rare solo set. Originally from Lima, Peru, Jorge is among the most sought after bassists in New York. His work with artists such as Gary Burton, Kenny Werner, Shai Maestro, and Julian Lage goes beyond that of a “sideman,” helping to define the sound of every musical situation he takes part in. He will perform a set of solo music expressing the wide range of influences that inform his style, including contemporary jazz, Peruvian folkloric music, electronic processing, and contemporary classical music.

Cabin Trio brings together an ongoing collaboration between pianist/filmmaker James Carson, Dan Blake, and percussionist Richie Barshay. Theirs is a unique musical alchemy bringing together world rhythms and minimalist sonic excursions. This will be the trio’s debut performance.

Set 1: Jorge Roeder (Bass, Electronics)

Set 2: Cabin Trio: James Carson (Piano), Dan Blake (Saxophone), Richie Barshay (Percussion)
