Dec 6 - Echo_Group3 Dec 6 - Exceptet

Programming TBD, but will include world premieres, as well as a performance of Glass’s Music in Similar Motion by both ensembles combined.

Echo Chamber, an emergent sextet with a flair for contemporary music, is dedicated to commissioning and performing works written specifically for its unique instrumentation (clarinet, piano, percussion, violin, cello, and double bass). With an eye towards cross-media collaborations, the group is currently working with vocalist and composer Derek Piotr on an evening-length work including electronics and vocals. Future projects include commissions from some of the most exciting young composers, including Matt Frey, Molly Joyce, Michael Laurello, and Ashil Mistry.

Exceptet is an ensemble with “vast emotional range and onomatopoetic charm“ (I Care If You Listen), founded around the unique instrumentation of Igor Stravinsky’s L’Histoire du Soldat. Dedicated to commissioning new and exciting works from some of today’s finest emerging composers, the nascent group has commissioned and performed new works by composers Fjola Evans, Brooks Fredrickson, Paul Kerekes, Brian Petuch, and Eric Shanfield.  Percussionist Mark Utley is a Vic Firth artist, which featured Exceptet performing Chris Cerrone’s “Recovering” on its Facebook page in the Fall of 2015. In Spring of 2016, they will be presented by the MATA Interval Series in New York and by the Times Two series in Boston, where they will premiere new works by Scott Wollschleger, Brendon Randall-Myers, and Alex Weiser.
