The Dave Scott Quartet features some of New York’s finest improvisers.  Their experiences range from traditional forms of jazz to the extremely experimental and atonal.  Dave Scott’s compositions reflect both specific forms with dense harmonic structures and open frameworks for free improvisation.  The focus of the group is to utilize the engaging and often complex compositions as vehicles for improvisation. The pieces develop interactively and organically allowing each musician full individual expression.  In June of 2004 Dave released a CD of the quintet, “Song For Amy” on the SteepleChase label.  In February of 2007 the quintet released a new project “Naivete’”also on SteepleChase.  Both discs have received critical acclaim, “Song for Amy” in Jazz Times (March 2005) and “Naivete’” in the Jazz Review  (September 2007).  A third disc “Nonchalant” was released in April of 2009 and received honorable mention as “CD of the year” in All About Jazz.  The group performs regularly in the New York City area including the Knitting Factory and  the Cornelia St. Cafe and has been featured on the Los Angeles County Museum of Art concert series and at Jazz City ‘99 on the campus of the University of Southern California.  Other venues include the Deer Head Inn, the Blue Room in Kansas City, MO and the Missouri State University concert series.
