Brooklyn-based composer & guitarist Daryl Shawn is creating a distinctive sound in the cluttered landscape of solo six-stringers by fueling an array of techniques equally inspired by flamenco and the avant-garde with the emotional intensity of rock, the exploratory spirit of jazz and rhythms culled from around the globe. Without effects pedals nor fancy alternate tunings, he often creates the illusion of a full ensemble on one instrument (and may soon pound a hole all the way through the poor thing). He visits Firehouse to celebrate the release of his newest solo album “In Place”, a song cycle of change created during half a decade spent in remote Oaxaca, Mexico followed by several years on tour without a fixed address.
A gourmet as well as a guitarist, guests will be treated to adult beverages and homemade eats after this special afternoon performance.
